Western Ranchlands was founded in 2013 by a group of experienced ranchers and business professionals in order to make ranch land both a financially viable investment and a conservation achievement. Our team has over 100 years of collective management experience and has effectively managed millions of acres of land in the U.S., Canada and Australia. Together and individually, we have developed and used a variety of sophisticated tools and management systems to improve decision-making and increase profits while preserving or enhancing environmental attributes and wildlife habitats.

Philosophy
At Western Ranchlands, our philosophy is based on eight core premises: Ecological systems are not static. By understanding the principles and processes that drive them, we can influence these living systems to produce more of what we value over time. By no understanding or poorly interacting with these systems, we are more likely to cause a decline in both ecological function and economic productivity.

Buy Right - Run Right. We “Buy Right” by identifying properties with unrealized potential and by negotiating fair and competitive agreements with property owners. We use a combination of extensive industry experience and sophisticated decision-making tools to independently evaluate rural real estate assets and ranching enterprises.

Business Synopsis
Ranchlands are generally owned for one of three reasons: to operate a livestock business, to “conserve” or maintain open space, or to utilize as a real estate investment. Because of inherent inefficiencies in the ranching conservation, and rural land investment industries, the majority of ranches in North America are far less profitable than they could be, irrespective of whether they are owned and operated as family businesses, as conservation properties, or as long-term investments.
